DUE TO AN UNEXPECTED SITUATION WITH ANOTHER SCHEDULED PERFORMANCE ON SARA’S TOUR, HER ARKANSAS TOUR DATES HAVE BEEN CANCELLED
We are sad not to have Sara at the Folk School, and hope Sara can make it to Arkansas at a future date.
CANCELLED
Sara Grey will share ballads that travelled across the Atlantic to North America and onward to the Ozarks. Sara will shine a light on how songs were shaped by the personalities that presented them, and illuminate what makes ballads from the Ozarks unique compared to other parts of the country. Ozark ballads defied the rules of the traditional ballad and set themselves apart as a unique look into Ozark culture.
While here in the Arkansas, Sara is thrilled to bring her knowledge of the Ozark ballads- songs that migrated into the region in the 1800's. Sara will explain how Ozark Ballads cover subject matter that was not present in ballads from other areas of the nation due to sanctions by the church and other matters that influenced song migration and translations.
She will share songs from the collections of John Quincy Wolf and Max Hunter.
Tricia Hearn (former Assistant Archivist from Ozark Folk Center of Mountain View), will be joining Sara to share her own deep knowledge of Ozark ballads and traditions.
Sara will lead us in singing! Be ready to learn songs and sing them together.
*Sara will have books and CDs available.
